The whole school funnelled into that one building, even so it was rarely busy. The Academy had clearly been built for at least a couple of thousand students, and they hadn't even hit a fraction of that yet. They hadn't left the library until the bell, but it was much closer to the canteen than most of the other buildings, as a result there were just a few of the older kids helping themselves to food and grabbing the best seats.
Melody grabbed one of the plastic trays, pulling out another dry one for Maia. She was still pretty surprised that the pop star had agreed to eat lunch with her, she'd have thought the older girl would have had her own friends she'd rather spend time with. She wasn't sure what to say. It had been easier in the lesson, at least then there had been something clear to do, something obvious to talk about. Right now she found herself tongue-tied. Melody did not get tongue-tied.
She was grateful when the lunch lady interrupted the awkward silence in the queue by dropping a large, greasy slice of pizza onto the tray. That was followed by greasier fries, and what Melody was sure was the exact same vegetable medley she'd had the first time she got lunch here. She prodded it suspiciously. It was soggy.
Taking her 'meal' across the canteen she slid it onto one of the last good tables by the windows. They tended to fill up quickly with the older students, so it was pretty lucky that they'd managed to get one before the rest of the classes got there. She picked uncomfortably at the fries in the plastic tray.
"So uh… I don't see you in here much normally. Do you study through lunch most times?"

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ Over the past month, the brunette had spent a fair amount of time trying to familiarize herself with the layout of the Evergreen Metahuman Boarding Academy campus. Which she had come to discover was deceptively massive. Still, she hadn't gotten lost in two weeks now so that was progress at least. Of the numerous buildings that comprised the campus, the singer had likely spent the least amount of time in the school's canteen. Regardless of the institution, it seemed to be a well known fact that school lunches were notoriously unhealthy and according to some students downright disgusting. Ever since her career began the teenager's mother/manager had placed her on a rather strict diet that most certainly didn't include greasy pizza and fries. In fact, her mother would likely have a fit if she were to see the academy's current offerings. Somehow, that knowledge tempted the teen to request the exact meal that would cause her mother to have a meltdown. However, it would seem that habit won out as she took the plastic tray from Melody selecting a salad, fresh fruit and an unsweetened tea for her lunch. In many ways, becoming a celebrity had somewhat ruined the pop singer from a social perspective. She spent so much time avoiding the paparazzi that it seemed odd to be walking about so freely. Every now and then a few students made a big fuss but things had certainly settled down since her first day here. So, this is what it felt like to be a normal girl, the starlet thought to herself as she lifted the tray and strolled across the canteen after Melody. Placing it gently down on the table, Maia slid into the vacant seat beside Melody. It had been so nice of the younger girl to invite her to have lunch as it seemed that the pair were becoming friends, but something still seemed a bit...off. It wasn't until the teen idol sat down next to Melody that she was able to put her finger on just what was off. Melody was flustered again. As much as she liked to consider herself a normal teenager it would seem that the younger girl struggled to view her as such. Still, she had asked Maia to eat with her so that had to indicate some progress right? Unless...unless she had expected her to say no. Laughing inwardly, the nineteen year old her head as a ghost of a smile flickered across her face. Melody picked at her lunch half heartedly prompting Maia to wonder if it was because of her presence at the table or the food was simply not appetizing. "To be honest, I think that this might be the first time I've been in here. Outside the tour of course. I probably should be studying during lunch time to be honest, but I just tend to eat in my room. I have dietary restrictions so my mother insisted that I bring along my personal chef."

The salad, fresh fruit and tea couldn't have been any more different to the greasy food currently occupying Melody's plastic tray. Melody was currently at the age where she could eat whatever she wanted and it didn't see to have much of an effect on her figure, although comparing their chosen meals did leave Melody feeling insecure about her decision. Until Maia revealed that she had a personal chef, at which point Melody was too busy feeling shocked by the fact that someone here had a personal chef.
Gold credit cards, personal chefs. Had she accidentally been sent to a finishing school? On the other hand, Maia had also said something else. That she tended to eat in her room.
"In your room? Like… By yourself?"
It was a little sad to hear and Melody wondered how many people Maia really knew here at the academy. Most of the kids here did seem to be pretty normal, outside of the metahuman abilities. Maybe it was harder for someone like Maia, a famous popstar, to come to a school like this. After all, almost everyone would at least know of her, even if they wouldn't recognise her straight away. The girl was probably sick and tired of being ambushed by fans around every corner.
Melody realised that people like her were probably one of the reasons why Maia avoided the canteen. Things must be even worse considering she could sense emotions as well, that way there would be no escape. The younger girl resolved to at least not contribute to that problem. That meant she needed to untie her tongue and actually start talking like a proper human being.
"At least you get to eat better food than the rest of us losers. I'd love to have a private chef on call, although I'd probably get really fat…"

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ Admittedly as they were going through the line Maia hadn't paid much attention to the contents of her lunch companion's tray. However, once they sat down curiosity compelled the brunette to steal a glance. The teenager's eyes widened slightly as she took in the greasy slice of pizza, fries and well...she wasn't certain she could readily identify the soggy mass that was on the tray. Melody must have an extremely high metabolism, the teen concluded. How else could she afford to eat such greasy and fatty food with no visible damage to her figure? To be honest, Maia could scarcely recall the last time that she'd had pizza and fries. Dante just didn't prepare those kind of meals. Every now and then while on tour she'd managed to sneak such luxuries as twinkies and potato chips but only because she knew that she was much more likely to burn them off while performing. Here at EMBA, the pop star wouldn't be able to retain her vigorous exercise regimen and as such would definitely have to be more particular about her diet. It was strange but until Melody mentioned it, the starlet really hadn't given much thought to how odd it might seem to others that she ate lunch in her room. Her mother had spared no expense in ensuring that her room at EMBA would be as cozy as her room back home so why shouldn't she want to spend time there? Shrugging her shoulders, the teen idol replied "Well, yes. I don't have a roommate so most of the time I am by myself in there, but I don't mind. When you're on the road as much as I am you kind of get used to the solitude." Not that she was at all ready to admit it aloud but truthfully, the brunette was struggling trying to make friends at EMBA. It wasn't nearly as easy as she'd hoped that it would be and unfortunately curtesy of her ability she had a full understanding as to why. There were several groups that her potential friends tended to fall into. There was the group of people that had already pegged her as stuck-up and inaccessible based solely on her celebrity status. Then there was the group of people that did desire to be friends with her but were terrified of approaching her. Last but not least was the group that her tutee seemed to fall into. The students that were bold enough to approach her but after having done so found themselves too star struck to interact with her. It was a frustrating conundrum that the pop star had no inkling on how to fix. Laughing softly Maia responded "Well, better is rather objective. Boring is a bit more accurate, honestly. Although he is getting a little better in that department and trust me if you had a chef like mine I highly doubt that you'd get fat. For the record though, I don't mind sharing Dante with you if you ever want something more appetizing."

Melody didn't really get on with hers. She wondered if the pop star had lucked out in getting a room that didn't have a roommate in it yet, or if she had a private room. Judging by the fact that she had a private chef Melody would have guessed the latter. Which made her more jealous.
She didn't question why Maia was treated differently, it was pretty obvious, she had money. So did Keke, only hers was demonstrated by a gold credit card rather than a private room and chef. Melody wondered if Maia carried a Platinum credit card. That would buy an awful lot of Dominos. She glared thoughtfully at the greasy slice before taking a contemplative bite. She was definitely thinking too much about pizza, the limited food here was driving her nuts.
"He keeps you on a proper diet?"
A string of cheese steadfastly refused to separate, and she chewed on it until it did. It might be good to eat some actually healthy food. They had a fairly balanced diet here, and she made sure to get fruit and vegetables. She was a teenager, she wasn't stupid. Plus her father was a doctor.
"Sure, I'd lo-"
She cut herself off as she experienced a sudden flash of guilt. It was pretty clear that Maia was lonely. After all, Melody never saw her in the lunch room and didn't remember ever seeing her hanging out with anyone her own age. Or anyone not her own age for that matter. Was Melody taking advantage of that isolation? Whether she meant to or not?
She realised that thinking about it didn't make much difference, if Maia could read her emotions she'd have realised what had derailed Melody's train of thought. Maybe the best way to deal with it was just to explain what she was thinking. "Sorry, I just thought… like… do you…" It wasn't going so well.
She steeled herself, before plunging ahead. "I don't see you hanging around with many people here. Ummmm, I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage…" She trailed off pathetically.

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ When the pop star had initially enrolled in EMBA she hadn't expected her preferential treatment to be quite so blatant. In fact eating and subsequently complaining about the canteen food, arriving early so that she could choose which side of the room that she'd prefer, and getting to know her roommate were all things that she'd been looking forward to. However, her mother's elitist demands had afforded her a comfortable life of luxury and privilege while here at the academy, but also made her something of a pariah. Quite a few students had already labeled her a 'diva' or a 'princess' and honestly she couldn't really fault them for that assessment even if it did make her a little sad that she hadn't been afforded an opportunity to prove herself otherwise. To be honest, it was one of the many reasons that she opted to take lunch in her room. As eating food that was clearly different from the food that the other students were served would just make her stand out more in a most unflattering way. Despite her protests, her mother had secured her a private room out of fear of the teenager's personal belongings being pilfered and sold for profit. Worse yet a roommate would be in a prime position to have knowledge to provide to a sleazy tabloid about the singer's habits and mannerisms. Not that there was anything peculiar about the brunette that would have reflected poorly in an interview but the press had a unique ability to spin even the most innocent of things into something vile and disgusting. It was strange to think it and undoubtedly her mother would be shocked to hear her say it but more and more the singer found herself longing for the days when such measures were not deemed necessary. Nodding enthusiastically in response to Melody's inquiry about her chef, the teen replied "Oh, definitely. For several years I used to be vegetarian but recently I've gone full vegan. I will admit that it is really restrictive and a lot of people get pretty impatient with trying to sort out meals. I guess that's why my mom thought it would just be easier to send along my chef who is used to preparing that kind of stuff for me." The teen idol twisted the cap off her bottle of unsweetened tea and bought it to her lips. As she took a big swig of the beverage, the nineteen year old did her best not to grimace at the bitterness of the liquid. Unsweetened tea was still a fairly new addition to her diet and Maia was struggling to become accustomed to the taste. As it appeared that Melody was about to take her up on her offer, a smile lit the young woman's face. However, the smile vanished as quickly as it had appeared as the younger girl broke off in mid sentence leaving the singer perplexed. Then the tingling was back, the sole reminder that she wasn't normal anymore. Guilt... but what was there to feel guilty about? Apparently realizing that she'd pick up on her emotions anyway, thankfully Melody attempted to express the thoughts that had spawned the emotions that Maia picked up on. Although.... not quite that eloquently. In fact the other teen's attempt at clarification had only left her more confused than before. A sentiment communicated by the furrowing of her brows and slight wrinkling of her forehead. Even with an entire declarative sentence uttered, the teen idol still didn't immediately latch on to what the brunette was implying. Then suddenly.... it hit her. Smiling a little sadly, the singer replied "Well, I won't lie and say that making friends here has been easy. It's in fact much harder than I imagined. Making friends with other celebrities is really easy. Like I ran into a supermodel at Starbucks and after talking over a cup of coffee we're going to Disneyworld in October kind of easy. Here though... half of the students are scared to talk to me and the other half don't want to because they think I am stuck-up for some weird reason. I even sensed one girl in ballet class literally being angry at me just for walking into the room. Being a celebrity here seems to hurt far more than it helps, but I'm optimistic that once people start seeing me less as a pop star and more as a person that will change. You don't have to worry about taking advantage of me. You aren't. If anything I'm taking advantage of you. See, me sharing my chef with other people would drive my mom up a wall and she and I....well we're not on good terms at the moment."

It was true that lots of famous people seemed to be friends with other famous people, but Melody had always thought that was more of a proximity thing rather than an ease thing. What Maia said made sense though. Melody had made a conscious effort not to fangirl all over the popstar. She could believe how hard it was to talk to people if they were doing just that. Presumably that wasn't something that came with most celebrities.
Melody had been struggling to really relate to Maia. She'd been trying, after all, what teenage girl didn't want to relate to their idol? Even so, it had been hard. There were so many differences in their lives. Maia had a private chef and a private room. Then Maia mentioned her issues with her mother.
If there was anything Melody could relate with it was problems with parents. Or parent, to be more specific. She felt a flush of annoyance at the thought of her father, along with a confusing mix of other emotions that she mostly ignored. Dealing with them was definitely going to be too complicated right now, so she used her normal problem-solving method and ignored them. This time she wasn't even thinking about what Maia would pick up on. The flash of anger and annoyance flared far brighter than that mess anyway.
"I get that. My dad sucks so I can get definitely help you out if annoying your parents is what you're after. I'm pretty sure in normal school I was the girl parents didn't want their sons to bring home."
She suddenly felt a sudden, unexplainable rush of embarrassment, flushing almost bright red and her eyes flaring. "I mean uh… This isn't the same situation… But I'll uhhh, help you out how I can!"

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ As the brunette recounted her encounter with Gravity Girl, Melody's eyebrows gradually rose higher and higher. To be honest, the ease in which she had befriended the supermodel was surprising even to herself as none of her other friendships had been forged nearly as easily. As much as she hated to admit it, most of the friendships that she'd made in the past 5 years had been with other celebrities. In fact, the only friends that she had that were not famous were members of her team that she'd known prior to being signed. It wasn't that the singer lacked the desire to make friends outside of her social circle but rather that she was rarely presented with the opportunity to do so. The teen had hoped that enrolling in EMBA would afford her the opportunity to make friends with people from all walks of life. However, her attempts to do so had been pathetically unfruitful. The teenager longed desperately to be able to relate to her classmates, but her life was so different from that of the average EMBA student. The pop star lived independently of her mother, her meals were custom made by a private chef, and she had a personal assistant whose sole purpose in life seemed to be to make hers easier. She imagined that there were very few students that could make similar claims. As such finding common ground was challenging to say the least. Still, there had to be something that she had in common with some of the other girls. Clothing, hair, boys, makeup, music... she was still a teenager after all. Maybe what she needed was an ice breaker. A gesture to let the rest of the student body know that she didn't consider herself above them. Just as Maia was weighing the probability of the administration allowing her to throw a pizza party, a wave of anger and annoyance so strong that it briefly left her breathless washed over the teen idol. Whoa, that was intense, Maia mused as she shifted her gaze back to Melody. What on earth had she said that had set the other girl off so, the nineteen year old wondered. Bewildered, the brunette replayed their conversation back through her mind focusing intently on her portion of the dialogue until Melody's voice penetrated the silence. Parent issues was definitely something that the young woman could relate to. Not so much dad issues in specific as she didn't know hers, but nonetheless sucky parents was definitely a sentiment that she could get behind. I "I'm sorry that you and your dad don't get along so well. That seems to be the case with a lot of people nowadays. My mom and I rarely see eye to eye these days either. We used to be close, but then I got a record deal and...things changed. To be honest, annoying her is actually one of the few pleasures that I get out of our working relationship. She really makes it way too easy to irritate her. It's barely a challenge, but still a lot of fun." The rosiness that engulfed the younger girl's face bought forth a girlish giggle from the pop star as Melody rushed to clarify her statement. Shaking her head, Maia replied "It's ok. I get what you were trying to say. For the record, I live by myself so my mom has no control over who I hang out with. In case you were concerned that she would object to us being friends. If you are serious about being willing to help me out then please consider taking me up on my offer."

It would have been so easy to do so. There were several people here who would have done so, friends and not. In that case Melody didn't know if she'd ever live it down. Fortunately Maia clearly wasn't the type to do that.
Recovering from her embarrassment, Melody continued with her offer, "Oh I'm serious, I love pissing off my dad so pissing off your mum will definitely be fun."
She shrugged, "And if there's anything else I can help you with, then just let me know. I'm pretty good at science and maths, I blame my dad for that."
Looking around the room, she saw that the canteen was slowly beginning to fill. A few students had already claimed tables, while the rest filtered into the growing queue at the counters. Most of them chatted, laughed, flirted. Everything you'd expect a normal student body to do. One student summoned a bottle of water to their hand with a gesture. OK, maybe not everything a normal student body might do. She didn't see Ed or Keke there. Maybe those two were off on one of their study dates. Although Melody wasn't sure how much studying they really got up to.
A few people cast curious glances in their direction, one or two people looking slightly longing, before looking away when they realised she'd noticed them. It couldn't be easy being isolated like that. Melody was mostly isolated by choice, she had some friends, and avoided others because she didn't want to get too attached to people here. It was probably only a matter of time before they expelled her for one reason or another.
"Am I spending all my Spanish lessons with you from now on then?"

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ Throughout her career, Maia had encountered nearly every type of fan there was. From the overeager fan whom seemed intent on literally smothering her with their love through back cracking bear hugs to the scatterbrained fan whom became so overwhelmed by her presence that despite having bought tons of merchandise for her to sign either forgot to ask her to sign it or ran off without it. Upon their first meeting, Maia had placed Melody amongst the group of fans that once they'd confirmed she was in fact Maia Morales were suddenly struck mute or were otherwise unable to communicate effectively. It was adorable if not a little frustrating as the brunette really enjoyed conversing with her fans. She liked to ask them questions like what was their favorite song or favorite album. Or how they'd come by her music in the first place? How long they'd been a fan? Bottom line was that she like to get to know the people that supported her music allowing her not only to live a comfortable lifestyle but to continue doing what she loved. Despite the execs best efforts to convince her to view her fans in terms of sales, the teenager was determined to continuously remind herself that there were actual people behind the usernames and fan accounts. People that could easily chose to do something else with their hard earned dollars but instead chose to spend it on her music or her concerts. Yes, her fans meant everything to Maia which might have gone a long way to explain why she found herself so fascinated with the younger girl next to her. As much as she hated to admit it, her music seem to speak most to the demographic of tweens and teeny boppers. Most of the fans she met were perky, excitable and above all else girly. Melody was not your typical 'Maia Morales' fan and this intrigued the teenager. In addition to being different in temperament, there was something slightly off about the younger meta's emotional output. Come to think of it the last time that she'd even felt something remotely similar to this was when she'd gone out with Isaiah. As realization sank in, a soft smile played across the singer's lips. Suddenly, things were starting to make a bit more sense. When Melody confirmed that she was indeed earnest in her offer to assist Maia with angering her mother, the pop star's smile brightened substantially as she gestured toward's the vegetable medley saying "Great. With your help, I am sure that we'll be driving her crazy soon enough. To that point, as long as I'm around you'll never have to worry about eating... whatever the heck that is again." Shifting her position in her chair, the starlet unzipped a front pocket in her backpack and withdrew her cellphone. The teen idol's finger slid gracefully over the screen shifting through several apps before double clicking on an icon with a picture of assorted food items on it. After a bit more navigation, Maia placed the phone on the table and slid it in Melody's direction. "This is my chef's menu. It's divided into multiple categories such as gluten free, vegan, keto, and etc. Then there are subcategories for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've created a guest account already so just double tap on whatever you want and when it prompts you to add to your personal menu just select guest," Maia explained. Admitting that she wasn't good at something had always been a bit difficult for the nineteen year old which was why the singer was so moved by Melody's offer to assist her with her studied. "I would think that having a father who is a scientist would automatically make you pretty good at science and math which kind of works in my favor because to be honest I'm struggling a little in science and just barely passing in math. So any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated," the young woman said. Feeling eyes on them, the brunette looked up to see a few girls staring in their direction. However, when she smiled and waved their faces collectively rosined and they quickly averted their gaze. Sighing inwardly, Maia's gaze drifted back over to Melody as she replied "Well, that's entirely up to you Mel. You don't mind if I call you Mel by the way, do you? You can feel free to call me Mai. All my friends do. It's your call whether you want to continue lessons with me or go back to class with the other students. You're honestly more advanced than the others by leaps and bounds so if you do decide to go back I will let the teacher know that she needs to challenge you more because her current lessons are really slated towards beginners and you're intermediate at best."

In truth she was struggling in the lessons, she'd never had the knack for languages that she'd had for subjects like science and math. All that really meant was she was far less likely to actually try, and she certainly wasn't going to put herself out there and take the risk of being wrong. This had been interpreted by the teacher as Melody being both unable and unwilling to take part in the lessons properly, when really she was just the latter.
She was having much more funs studying Spanish with Maia, and enjoyed the older girl's company, although the question now was how she could say that without seeming too eager to spend time with her. "Sure, you can call me Mel," she smiled, before continuing, "And uh… I think I'll get more out of learning with you than in normal lessons." She continued on quickly. "If that's OK with you I mean. I can help you with math and science stuff then too."
She'd always found math and science relatively simple, although at this stage she refused to link that success with her father's similar successes in the fields. She was good enough at it that she'd managed to deliberately fail multiple exams over several years without it showing up as an alarm for the school itself. Her father had noticed, and complained, but according to her teacher's it was just because she wasn't as gifted a student as he might have thought.
She was glad, she didn't want to follow his example and end up graduating from college before she was even old enough to go. She also wanted to make sure that she didn't prove him right if she could possibly help it. That definitely wouldn't help things.
They were still sat alone at the table, and Melody had seen Maia glance across at others several times. No one had approached them however, and Melody wondered if it was because she was here, or if they were afraid to approach a genuine pop star. More likely the latter. She had a reputation as a troublemaker, but it wasn't like this was the Breakfast Club, people didn't go out of their way to avoid her, even if she wasn't popular.
She shrugged, not really sure how to comfort the star. "I don't think you're that scary…"

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ Unlike many foreign language classes that Maia had attended, EMBA didn't seem to separate their language courses based upon skill level. At least not that she'd seen anyway, thus many advanced speakers found themselves in classes with students heard never even heard Spanish spoken better yet knew how to speak it themselves. Perhaps that was why students like Melody seemed to stand out so much as exemplary. With as much traveling as she did, the teen had been somewhat forced to develop a knack for learning other languages. Sure, she had interpreters but they mainly just accompanied her for the purpose of communicating with vendors regarding her shows and couldn't be with her when attempting to navigate a city on her own. While Maia certainly didn't mind the extra credit nor was she opposed to the company of the younger girl, the brunette was more than willing to respect Melody's decision if her tutee preferred to go back to taking classes alongside her classmates. Although, it would be a shame as Melody truly did have a knack for songwriting whether she thought so or not. The nineteen year old attributed this not to her tutoring but the other dark haired girl's appreciation of a challenge. A soft smile crept across the singer's face as Melody agreed to her suggested nickname for her. Much to her surprise, the younger girl expressed a desire to continue her lessons with her. Nodding her head, the pop star replied "I am probably a little biased but I have always believed that students do tend to get a more well rounded education from native speakers of the language. Plus, since I'm not an employee of the EMBA, I'm not required to stick to a particular curriculum or even have my 'lesson plans' approved. So, I get to teach you all kinds of fun stuff like slang, swear words, or insults." The young woman's face adopted an expression then that could have easily be interpreted as angelic had the glint in her eye not betrayed her by eluding to her mischievous nature as she added "Not that I would ever do such a thing as I am a role model after all." Giggling softly, the teen idol continued "That's to say that I don't mind at all if you want to continue lessons with me. Your class time is actually my free period so I'm usually just hanging out in my room goofing off on social media around that time anyway. Maybe we could spend some time on Spanish and some on science or math. Or if you'd rather dedicate the whole time frame to just Spanish we could always make arrangements to get together for my 'tutoring' later. Whatever works best for you. To be honest, I wouldn't mind the company." Maia had done her very best not to be too obvious with her sadness and disappointment but it would seem that her young charge had picked up on it nonetheless as she commented that she didn't find the star to be all that scary. While it did frustrate her, the brunette couldn't say that she didn't understand the behavior of her classmates. A few years ago, had she found herself in the same position she would likely have responded the same way. Still this knowledge did very little to soothe her bruised ego. Just as she had been about to offer a pitiful excuse about having some sort of assignment to finish and making a hasty retreat, something odd... happened. An adorable younger girl with long, chestnut brown hair and expressive almond shaped cognac eyes bounded up to the table seemingly oblivious to the reluctance of her classmates to do so. It would seem that the girl hadn't didn't even seem to notice the superstar seated there as her fair orbs rested squarely on Melody. "Oh my gosh, there you are. I have been looking all over the place for you," she breathed. Taking a deep breath she continued "I need your help. I am totally desperate. These quadratic equations make absolutely no sense to me at all." It was only then that the brunette seemed to notice that Melody was not alone. Realizing that she'd unintentionally ignored Melody's companion, the girl's cheeks tinged pink as she added "Oh, hi. Sorry I didn't see you there. Hope that I didn't come off as being too rude. Wait, don't I know you?"

Albeit a third person that she knew. As if to help her drive home her point about being good at math and science her friend Keke had arrived to ask for help. Not that the long haired, brown eyed girl bothered to introduce herself, or even display any sort of recognition towards Melody's current companion.
Melody blinked, then introduced her friend to her new… friend? Acquaintance? Spanish teacher? Keke this is Maia Morales. Maia, Keke."
There was definitely still a tinge of admiration in Melody's tone that wouldn't have been there if Maia was a normal person. She might be doing her best to respect Maia's wishes to be treated normally, but that didn't change the fact that Melody had idolised the older girl for several years and even had a poster of her on her wall.
She sighed, her amber eyes shifting slightly now that someone else had come to sit at the table. Holding out her hand, she started digging in her bag for her own math book. "Is this the homework that was due in yesterday?"
She hadn't done it. She made a point of rarely doing homework, but she remembered the sheet. It had been a pretty easy one to her eyes but somehow Keke just couldn't seem to get her head around the equations. Melody would have expected that someone who could mentally communicate with machines would have a more organised mind but apparently Metahuman abilities didn't work like that.
Eventually finding her math book, a slightly dogeared, battered paperbacked exercise book, she flipped it open and found the sheet they had been set for homework in their last lesson. It had small doodlings in the corners. Turning to Maia, she asked, "Do you mind if I help her out with her homework?"

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ Strangely, Maia had become so accustomed to the other students keeping their distance from her that when someone finally did approach their table, it felt a bit odd to the brunette. Even if the brown haired girl that had approached the table had been seeking out Melody solely. If the singer thought that she was being watched before, the arrival of Melody's friend drew twice as many stares and it was at the moment more than any other that she could recall that the pop star resented her ability. How nice it would have been to not be able to pick up on their emotions and know that they were watching to see if she would brutally rebuff the interloper. An amused smile flickered across the teen idol's face as the very flustered young girl issued a hasty apology for overlooking her in her initial greeting. While she was sure that quite a few celebrities would be quite offended, the nineteen year old found herself struggling to reign in her laughter. It was only when a formal introduction had been made by Melody that the singer could detect a glint of recognition in Keke's eyes. Which was abruptly followed by the sixteen year old's cheeks reddening to a rich scarlet hue. "Oh my Gosh! Of course! I remember seeing you in ballet class but I don't think we've have any classes since then. Come to think of it, I never really seen you in the halls either. Why is that I wonder? Oh, wow. I am totally rambling aren't I?" The younger girl paused and took a deep breath before extending a hand towards the starlet saying "Ok, let's start over. It's nice to meet you Maia." Smiling warmly, the brunette accepted Keke's hand with her own dainty, perfectly manicured one and gave it a delicate shake. "It's a pleasure to meet you Keke." That said Keke plopped down in the empty seat across from Melody. Nodding her head in response to Melody's inquiry, Keke placed her own math book down on the table in front of her a sliver of the worksheet peeking out from the binder of the textbook. "Yeah, I got average marks on the assignment but I just can't figure out where I went wrong on a few of these problems. I thought that I was on the right track, but it seems like I was way off," Keke explained. Plucking the worksheet from the textbook, Keke slid it towards Melody. Beaming at Melody as she politely inquired as to if she would mind if she assisted the frazzled student with her math homework, Maia shook her head in response answering "No, not at all. Actually, you might be able to clear some things up for me as well."

It was fair. Melody hadn't thought she'd ever be sat having lunch with someone like Maia, it wasn't unexpected that it would come as a surprise to her friends. It wasn't as if she advertised the fact that she was a fan of Maia, she had a poster in her room, but wasn't the kind of fan that waxed lyrical about the people she admired.
Maia didn't seem too concerned about it though, shaking the hand of Melody's friend politely and sitting back as Keke sat down beside her and pulled out her math book. Melody slid the sheet closer towards her, looking at the problems that Keke had completed. Most of them were right, but one or two were way off. She frowned, quirking her head to the side as she studied the sheet. She pulled out her own sheet and worked through one of the problems herself, checking her work against Keke's.
"OK, I see what you've done wrong."
She flipped the sheet around so that Keke could see the exercises properly. With her pen she tapped on one of the offenders, circling one of the numbers. "You've just worked this one out with degrees rather than radians. Like everything is calc is done in radians, otherwise you'll get completely the wrong answer and that will mess up the rest of the equation."
She moved it sideways so they could both see, and quickly sketched out an equation. "You should have done it more like…" Her pen moved quickly and confidently across the page, the numbers flowing from it easily and without hesitation, "This. Try out the equation now."
She'd completed part of the answer for Keke, and pushed the sheet back to her so she could have a go, before turning to Maia brightly, "Sure! What are you stuck on?"
